The Benedictine Sisters of Phoenix offer Super Bowl attendees reasonably priced accommodations that benefit a good cause. Guests can pray for their team during Sunday morning Mass.
30-Second Summary
In an attempt to help pay off a mortgage on a recent land purchase, the sisters have rented out their 10-bedroom retreat to Super Bowl fans.
Located three and a half miles from the University of Phoenix stadium, Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery has already rented all its rooms.
Sister Linda Campbell, who runs the monastery and has had season tickets to the Arizona Cardinals for 10 years, says she does not mind if her guests pray for their favorite team.
When it comes to her beloved Cardinals, she says, “The way I do it is I pray for them to do the best they can.”
But in a sentiment that evokes Abraham Lincoln, she warns, “Everyone has to understand that God listens to both sides.”

The blog Lion in Oil, highlights the Phoenix ABC affiliate report about the Benedictine Sisters. Lion in Oil writes, “Many a fan has asked for God’s help this season, and he answered the prayers of the two teams who’ve made it this far. So is there a better place to spend the weekend at one of his homes? Let’s just say you’ll have a little more going for your team at the game.”

In his Second Inaugural Address, President Abraham Lincoln noted that both armies in the Civil War prayed for the defeat of the other. “Both read the same Bible and pray to the same God, and each invokes His aid against the other … The prayers of both could not be answered. That of neither has been answered fully.”
