The Story of Terry Fox
by findingDulcinea Staff
Betty Fox, mother of Canadian hero Terry Fox, helped carry the Olympic flag tonight during the opening ceremony of the 2010 Vancouver Games. Terry Fox inspired the nation in 1980 when he attempted run 5,000 miles from Newfoundland to British Columbia after losing his leg to cancer, only to succumb to the disease after completing half his journey. Fox raised tens of millions of dollars for cancer research before his death, surpassing his goal of raising one dollar for each of the 24 million residents of Canada.
