The coroner's verdict finds that recently deceased actor Heath Ledger was killed by a mix of prescription drugs.

30-Second Summary

The New York City Medical Examiner’s office announced the coroner’s verdict today.

"Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine,” according to a written statement.

Ledger was found dead in his apartment on Jan. 22 by his masseuse and a cleaning woman. The early reporting was characterized by misinformation and speculation regarding Ledger’s use of illegal drugs.

Slate reports that it is not certain whether the Batman movie “The Dark Knight” will be released as scheduled this summer considering the untimely death of its co-star. Ledger appears in the film as Batman’s arch enemy, the Joker.

Heath Ledger was 28.
