In 1937, Anne Frank wrote a card to her best friend for New Year's. A Dutch schoolteacher recently unearthed it in an antique shop.
30-Second Summary
An Amsterdam schoolteacher named Paul van den Heuvel was rummaging around his father’s antique shop when he came across a 1937 New Year’s greeting card signed by the young diarist. “I just found it in a box, which probably came from an Amsterdam flea market," said the teacher.
The card is addressed to one of her best friends, Samme Ledermann, and has been authenticated by the Anne Frank Museum.
A 2006 exhibit at the Amsterdam Historical Society presented a large collection of letters written by the young girl prior to and during the war. This latest find will undoubtedly be a welcome addition to the museums and historians working to preserve Frank’s memory.
