In an attempt to avoid making fantasy basketball a simple case of picking the league’s top scorers, many fantasy games have odd weighting methods. Often there will be points awarded for overall field goal percentage, 3-point field goal percentage, and free throw percentage in addition to standard “counting” stats like rebounds, assists, and points. So be sure to know the scoring rules before the draft.

Compared to other fantasy sports games, the strength of a player’s real-life team is not nearly as important in basketball. In fact, it can be a detriment, as most championship teams usually have a far better distribution of statistics than poorer ones.
