Today we present some of Japan's artistic and natural treasures, manmade structures that often exist in perfect harmony with their surroundings.
Japan, the beautiful island nation in the Pacific Ocean, feels ancient and modern at the same time. The country boasts not only centuries of exquisite fine arts and crafts, but also some of the most advanced technology and architecture in the world, impressive fashions, and sophisticated design. Japan may seem remote and exotic but today’s feature closes the distance by offering a rich sampling of Japan that’s almost as good as being there.
A Green Island
The Adachi Museum of Art in Shimane, on the southwest coast of the country, is known for its fine collection of contemporary Japanese artwork. The museum’s garden, created by its founder, is considered one of the most spectacular sights in Japan. View a slide show of the gardens as they change with the seasons at the Adachi Museum's Web site.
