Staying Alive
Yes, they are actors, but we’ve seen enough strained smiles on the faces of celebrity couples to know that these two are for real. Wherever they go, they seem to be, if not so much gushing over each other, then simply and truly comfortable and happy to be together.

What accounts for this seemingly egoless pairing of people in an industry that eats relationships alive? They’ve both been successful, although he more so than she in the earlier years. But that may only be because he’s 10 years older than she is. Born in 1950, Macy met playwright David Mamet in college. They have had a long artistic collaboration that helped establish Macy’s career and reputation, although he may be best known for his Oscar-nominated performance as the feckless car salesman murderer in the Coen brothers film, “Fargo.”

A History of Love
Huffman and Macy have actually been together more than twenty years, which is a rarity by Hollywood standards. And both have extensive resumes that include stage, film and television, and often times, or at least wherever possible, those credits intersect. In fact, part of the glue that holds the relationship together is work. “It's actually one of the things we do best. We work really well together, which is surprising because I know it's tough for couples to play tennis together, much less work together," Huffman has said. In fact, not unusually in this profession, they met through work back in the early days of New York’s Atlantic Theater Company, which was founded by Macy and Mamet.
They finally married in 1997 and now have two daughters together but continue to collaborate, creatively or otherwise.

They are also both supportive of each other’s endeavors, such as their recent collaboration on the film “Transamerica” which translated into numerous awards for Huffman, who played a man undergoing a sex change operation, and was lovingly produced by Macy. The couple celebrated at the Golden Globes and discussed their collaboration with NPR.

But no matter how they choose to collaborate, they radiate a grounded sense of themselves and each other that can’t help but inspire emulation.

Who knew?
One attempt to marry their two names (in the spirit of celebrity-couple moniker merging) is the tongue-in-cheek Filliam H. Muffman created by Stephen Colbert on “The Colbert Report” for the now popular segment, “The Splendiferous Zeppelin Escapades of Filliam H. Muffman.”

It even inspired a spin-off Web page about the fictitious film, which underscores the fact that Huffman and Macy are in a league of their own.
