Up & Running
The Mechanical Turk, run by Amazon.com, pays users to perform Human Intelligence Tasks (HIT) for the purposes of improving artificial intelligence. An HIT is a task that can be easily completed by human, but not by a computer. Answering the question, "Is there a pizza parlour in this photograph?" is one example. The payout from this service can range from a few pennies to a few dollars, depending on the task.
